June 15, 2015 at 14:23 #449Good games, everyone! I belive that the tournament was very well planned and outlined as competitively as possible despite the fact that we did not have an optimal turnout of players (with bye runs & no shows).
I am completely new to competitive Halo CE, this being my first kind of tournament whatsoever (I am actually a Halo 2 player more than anything). However, I will gladly join in any future H:CE tournaments.
Speaking of H2, I am very interested in FFA/2v2/4v4 and know fellow EU players that also would join if you are planning on having H2 tourneys.
Some feedback:
* There was some confusion at the start with the rules of the FFAs.
* The score reporting button (at the tournament registration page) was not there, and I am either a noob or did not have access at challonge to report scores directly to the bracket.
* Some information on continuation series (whether there is one, as well as whether it also becomes an extended series).June 15, 2015 at 15:06 #450LiNGeN: Score reporting only works for the person that registered the team. In the future I think we will just use the forum, since the score reporting requires reports from both teams to be visible even to us admins.
As for the continuation series, it is described (albeit in brief terms) on the rules page. Continuation series only happen in the Grand Final (GF). This is because the team coming from the WB has not lost a series, and thus should have an advantage. There are traditionally two ways of giving the WB team an advantage: two series GF or a GF with continuation series. We chose the latter, since that helps even out the advantage somewhat if the previous series was very close (3-2). (If the teams meeting in the GF have not played eachother earlier in the bracket, there would have been two separate 7 game sets, where the WB team only needs to win one to win the tournament.)
Anyone that followed MLG tournament finals back in the day should be familiar with how a continuation series works in practice. Moreover, the map list and starting score for the GF was posted here in the forum thread. We could probably have written out the rationale for the continuation series like I did above, but our judgment was that the rules page was long enough, and that examples and further explanations should technically not form part of a rules page.
PS: We hope to avoid FFA confusion in future tournaments 🙂
Thanks for your feedback, and please do reply back if there is anything else I can help explain or if you have more issues to bring up!
June 15, 2015 at 15:12 #451Also, LiNGeN, some point of H2 tournaments:
– I think there might be a community interest in this.
– The EuroHalo concept is about “classic Halo games”, which in my view refers to H1 and H2.
– What we need is for interested people and teams to show their interest here, on the forums. Make a thread, get people interested, and voice your wishes.
– There is also a need for good, preferably experienced (but I am willing to coach if needed) tournament organizers for H2. Interested persons are free to send me a PM,
– If the interest is big enough, EuroHalo will deliver 🙂- This reply was modified 9 years, 4 months ago by Øby.
June 15, 2015 at 15:25 #454Thanks for the clarification.
Regarding continuation series I am more interested what would happen earlier on in the losers bracket, specifically in this tournament you held. You wrote:
Continuation series only happen in the Grand Final (GF).
So, if I would’ve met a team in the LB that I lost against in the WB; it would be a new series?
For example; WBR1 Best of 3 I lose 0-2. Later in LB we meet again in a Best of 5. Will this series be started from scratch (0-0)?
It is my understanding that there are 3 possible variations:
1. No continuation (start from scratch).
2. Continuation without extended series.
3. Continuation with extended series.P.S: If you have a well written article regarding bracketology that may explain all this you are free to link me to it and free yourself from my complicated questions. Haha =)
June 16, 2015 at 10:03 #455We use option 1 in that case. The philosophy behind that choice being that at this point both teams have lost a series, and there is this no need to give one of the teams an advantage.
Some have done differently. MLG did at times do continuation series even in the LB. But this was slightly controversial, and makes the job of TOs quite difficult, since setting up rounds is made much more complicated.
