General rules

Introduction

Rules are subject to change at any time. It is the responsibility of all the players participating in EuroHalo tournaments to know and understand the rules before scheduling any matches. By joining a tournament, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree to abide by the rules posted here.

Eligibility

Only players from an EU/EEA country (including Switzerland) are allowed to participate in the tournament.

Round times/no-show

For each round of the tournament, the round and its starting time will be announced in the forum thread designated for score reporting and announcements. A team has 15 minutes from the announced round time to show-up with the proper number of eligible players and be ready to start the match. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit.

Teams should report no-shows in the forum thread designated for score reporting and announcements.

Host

Host (“party leader”) alternates between teams after each map. The top seeded team will have host the first map. A random player is chosen as host for FFA games.

In team games, the hosting team should be red, the offhost team should be blue.

No player may stream his gameplay – whether using the Twitch app or an external capture card – while at the same time being host.

If a host incorrectly ends a game (i.e. before the game has ended due to the kill or time limit being reached), the game is regarded as being forfeited.

Disconnections

If a player/host disconnects during the initial launch of a map, the map will be restarted. The initial launch is defined as within the first 30 seconds or before the first kill, whatever comes first.

A team can play a map shorthanded unless it is for a Team Slayer game. If a player disconnects after the initial launch of a Team Slayer game, the team that had a player disconnect forfeits the current map. Players disconnecting from an FFA game after the initial launch is disqualified.

Tie games

If a Team Slayer match is tied, the game is replayed. If there is another tie, the game is replayed again with a 5 minute time limit.

In FFA games, ties are broken in the following order: Score > Most kills > Fewest deaths > Most assists > Headshots > (drawing of lots)

Reporting results

Both teams are responsible for reporting the match as soon as it is completed. Reports should preferably include links to screenshots of the results screen, so that the report can be verified.

Results are reported by posting in the forum thread designated for score reporting and announcements. If only one team reports within reasonable time, that team’s report will be regarded as reflecting the correct result. If no scores are reported, the tournament administrator will draw lots to determine the winner.

FFA tournament for seeding

If an FFA tournament is used for seeding, the following point system is used to distribute seeding point among players:

1st round ——– 2nd round —— 3rd round
1. = 8 points — 1. = 9 points — 1st = 10 points
2. = 7 points — 2. = 8 points — 2nd = 9 points
3. = 6 points — 3. = 7 points — 3rd = 8 points
4. = 5 points — 4. = 6 points — 4th = 7 points
5. = 4 points — 5. = 5 points — 5th = 6 points
6. = 3 points — 6. = 4 points — 6th = 5 points
7. = 2 points — 7. = 3 points — 7th = 4 points
8. = 1 points — 8. = 2 points — 8th = 3 points

(After third round the points keep increasing by one for each round.)

A team’s seed is determined by adding the seeding points of both players and then ranking the teams. If two or more teams are tied for seeding points, lots are drawn to determine their order.

Continuation series

In double elimination tournaments hosted by EuroHalo, the grand final will be played as a so-called continuation series. This means that if the two teams playing in the grand final have met earlier in the bracket, they will continue the score from the previous set.

Example: teams A and B play 1st round, with B winning 3-1 in a five map series. If these two teams meet up in the grand final, the 1st round series continues with the fifth and final map. Then they play the five map set chosen for the grand final (and a final eleventh map tiebreaker if necessary). This enables the team that won the first matchup, and the winners bracket, to have an advantage in the final. At the same time, the team from the lower bracket do not suffer too much of a disadvantage if the first match between the two teams was close.

Cheating

All forms of cheating are frowned upon, and will result in punishment. Depending on the seriousness of the infraction, cheating may be punished with a map loss, match loss, tournament disqualification, and/or a (time limited) ban from future EuroHalo tournaments.

Examples of behaviour that is considered cheating (non-exhaustive list):

  1. Manipulating your network connection in order to achieve an advantage.
  2. Modifying controllers, games, gametypes, or similar hardware or software to achieve an advantage.
  3. To get outside the natural boundaries of a map.
  4. To pretend to be another player (“loaning” another player’s gamertag).

Cheating should be reported to the tournament administrator.
